Title:	Director Engineering
Location:	Houston, Texas
Description:	Responsible for the overall success of a defined work group within the Engineering Department. Must focus on setting the direction for the work group, the overall quality and timeliness of work produced, monitoring short-term and long-term workload, group adherence to standards and procedures, coaching and developing employees, and sponsoring initiatives for process improvements. Must possess extensive knowledge of both substation design and engineering. Critical to the position is demonstrated leadership skills that will create a positive work environment and learning opportunity for all employees. The Manager will participate in customer meetings as needed, and develop a strong, collaborative relationship with other departments. Possess skills in the following areas: • Must have experience as a Supervising Engineer • Effective oral and written communication skills • Leading in a team environment • Conflict management skills to resolve issues in a collaborative and constructive manner • Knowledge of business principles relating to accounting (i.e. goal setting, budgets, financial statements, accounts receivable, etc.) • Lead / Sponsor change initiatives within the department • Conveys commitment to quality through one's own behavior and by holding others accountable for similar behaviors • Knowledge and understanding of substation engineering and design • Extensive knowledge and understanding of substation components and their functions • Knowledge of common engineering application software • Depending on the work group discipline will need knowledge and understanding of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ASCE, ACI and ANSI • Extensive knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project • Knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software
